The development of a Framework for the recruitment, training, and coaching of Supervisors working within the resources industry is aligned to the Mining Industry Skills Strategy 'Securing the Critical Capability: Towards a Holistic Skills Strategy for the Mining Industry'. This is a research project developed by the Mining Industry Skills Centre and released in December 2007. This Framework is associated with Goal Three in Priority Strategy Two - Workforce Development:

The Skills Strategy research highlighted the critical need for highly skilled Supervisors, and the current challenges in addressing the ability to secure Supervisors at this level. The following challenges were identified:

training, and coaching, is neglected.
In August 2008 the Supervisor Focus Group was formed. Using the information collated from the workshops the Group embarked upon the development of a Supervisor Framework for the resources industry. Diagram 6 explains the process used in the development of the final product.
